Trisha’s Journal: Week 10. Part 1

Beginning on Tuesday, calculations presented another challenge: counting carbohydrates along with fat grams and calories. The recommended 175 grams of carbohydrate is too low a number if the fat grams stay down. More protein could add calories, but high-protein, low-carbohydrate diets are not recommended by the American Diabetic Association. So the calories have to come from complex carbohydrates. All this tallying and figuring and angling makes me positively dizzy!
Sunday was another celebration. Because I knew we would be eating a bit recklessly, I was super careful at other meals. The calorie and fat count may be a bit lower than the reality; I had to guess. Still, I don’t think it was too bad overall. And for the total week’s effort I’m down a pound and a half.

Tae Bo in my household has a subtitle: interactive boxing with a Doberman. The exercise couldn’t count unless the hysteria could translate into ab crunches.

Otherwise, I would say that exercise was successful. By the end of the week I was able to increase the pushups and the abs. My challenge will always be interruptions by the family or days with many responsibilities that preclude time for exercise. But this doesn’t worry me in the way it would have several weeks ago, because I know I will get back to it.

I feel like a successful person when I complete exercise sessions. I feel better, have more energy and don’t feel guilty when I then want to find a corner to read. And on those days when I feel inclined to excuse myself from the effort, I have a strategy for relatively painless achievement.
